José Altuve had nine hits, including one home run and three doubles. As a team, the Astros have hit 10 home runs in six games played. On the mound, the Astros have a 1.33 ERA against the Athletics this season. His WHIP is below 1.00, and he has struck out 58 batters in 54 innings. Four of his six starts have also been quality.

Why the Astros Could Cover the Spread
France will make his first start this season against Oakland and it’s a good thing he’s on the road. France is much better when playing away from home. He has decent numbers overall, but his road ERA is more than two runs better than his home ERA. France has a 2.18 ERA to go along with a .252 OBA. The Athletics are not good at the plate, so France should be able to shut down the Athletics with ease in this one.
Houston has been able to score plenty of runs against the Athletics this season. The Astros are coming off a series win in Colorado, so they are playing some pretty good baseball. If the Astros can continue to hit, and can continue to hit against the Athletics, they will have no problem covering the spread.
Why could athletics cover the spread?
Hogan Harris made an appearance against the Astros, but it was not the start. Harris threw five innings out of the bullpen and shut out the Astros. In that outing, he allowed only one hit while striking out five. If Harris can pull off the same type of outing, the Athletics will be covering the spread. He doesn’t need to pitch six shutouts, but he needs to limit the Astros to just a run or two if the Athletics want to have a chance.
Final Astros-Athletics Predictions and Selections
The Astros have the Athletics’ number this season. Houston is 6-0 and has massively outplayed them. I’ve mentioned several times this season that I will not bet on the Athletics. With JP France’s road numbers and the fact that they are playing the Athletics, I would take the Astros to win this game and cover the spread.
Final Astros-Athletics Predictions and Picks: Astros -1.5 (-128), Under 8.5 (-105)
