Beau Greaves has opened up about her struggle to “feel comfortable” on the floor despite winning the Women’s World Matchplay title in Blackpool; “I don’t feel 100 percent, but it’s hard to get to that point. It takes time.”

Beau Greaves has taken the darts world by storm. He has broken many records in the last 12 months. Her latest achievement was a 6–1 victory over Japan’s Mikuru Suzuki in the Women’s World Matchplay Final in her debut match at the Winter Gardens.

The Doncaster star claimed top prize with five perfect darts to break throw in leg two and fire a second 180 to lead 3-0.

She continued her fine form by exploiting Suzuki’s errors flawlessly – her opponent narrowly avoided a whitewash by surviving two match darts in leg six.

After claiming victory, 19-year-old Greaves had time for introspection.

“It’s a different feeling, coming and going behind the PDC and then the women’s series,” she admitted.

“I find it hard to feel comfortable on stage, even on the floor. I don’t feel 100 percent, but getting to that point is hard. It takes time.

“It takes a lot of sports to get into playing condition. That’s what you’ll be doing for the rest of your life, and it’s all new experiences.

“Over the last few weeks, I really struggled to know where I was going, but I’ve dealt with it well. I haven’t played my best, but there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s over now, and I came out victorious.”

The best of the Women’s World Matchplay action at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens

The teen sensation has chosen to take a more positive approach on the next phase of his career.

“I’ve had some good games in the women’s series, but if I can completely relax and play my game, I know there are things that people haven’t seen.

“I know I’ve won it this week. I’ll take a few days to remember about it, but next week I’ll be back in form and ready for the upcoming series. I’m confident of it. I’m just waiting for it to come to me.”

It was very evident in Greaves’ celebration of the weekend’s win – which has given him a bit more confidence.

Greaves explained, “I think I’ve come out of my shell a little bit more.”

“I know I will have better games this year, and I am happy to come out of BDO and move on to bigger and better things.

“I’ve got a lot of support from my family, and I’m ready to face whatever comes my way.”

Earlier in the afternoon, defending champion Fallon Sherrock was beaten by Lisa Ashton in a dramatic quarter-final, despite producing a 12-dart skin-saver in leg six to force a final leg shoot-out.

Greaves, who beat Sherock in a tournament last year to earn a place at Alexandra Palace, has a lot of respect for the former champion.

He said, “I have a lot of respect for Fallon. I think what she’s doing is great. Being under pressure all the time and, you know, living under the expectation of all this is hard.”

“She was someone we all looked up to and aspired to be like at PDC.”
