Max Verstappen claimed pole position for Red Bull at the British Grand Prix, while McLaren produced impressive qualifying performances through Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to take second and third positions.

A fitting end to an exciting session on the drying track at Silverstone as Briton Norris momentarily took provisional pole before Verstappen responded to prevent a major setback.

Verstappen, who leads the world championship by 81 points, claimed his fifth consecutive pole for the first time in his career, and will attempt to add a sixth consecutive race win on Sunday.

Norris’ rookie team-mate Piastri had a career-best qualifying performance to finish third, while the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished behind them.

It was a lucky chance for Lewis Hamilton as he managed to stay out of the barriers after spinning in qualifying at Silverstone.
