Dan Snyder in agreement to sell Commanders to Josh Harris Group

The Dan Snyder era is almost over.

A group led by Josh Harris, managing partner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, has entered into a purchase agreement for the NFL’s Washington Commanders, the sides announced Friday.

The deal is subject to NFL and regulatory approval.

“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement for the sale of the Commanders franchise with Josh Harris, an area native, and his group of influential partners,” Tanya and Dan Snyder said in a statement. “We look forward to the speedy completion of this transaction and to the passion and team for years to come.”

Harris, a Maryland native who is co-founder of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, agreed last month to buy the Commanders from Snyder for $6 billion.

“On behalf of our entire ownership group – including Mitch Rails, my longtime sports business partners David Blitzer and Earvin Magic Johnson – I want to express how excited we are to be selected by the NFL to be the next owner of the Washington Commanders and how Harris “We are committed to delivering a championship-caliber franchise to this city and its fans,” the CWG said in a statement in a joint press release.

“Growing up at Chevy Chase, I experienced firsthand the excitement around the team, including its three Super Bowl wins and longstanding winning culture. We look forward to the formal acknowledgment of our ownership by the NFL in the coming months and the honor of serving as responsible and accountable stewards of the Commanders franchise moving forward.

The transaction will include FedEx Field in Maryland, home to the Commanders since 1997, and the team’s practice facility in Virginia.

ESPN report that the search for a new stadium had stalled under Snyder.

“I am very excited to work on executing our vision for the Commanders and our loyal fans!
