Former Viking auditions for Giants roster
And to fill out the 90-man roster, teams are exploring the free-agent wire and auditioning new players. One such personality was a former Vikings linebacker who worked for the New York Giants – nick vigil,
NFL Network’s tom pelissero tweeted on fridayThe Giants are working on veteran LBs Nick Vigil and Sam Aguavoen today, according to their agents david cantor And ness mugrabi,
Vigil last played for the Arizona Cardinals though, for four games and 84 defensive snaps.
Vigil played for the Vikings in 2021, his only season with the club. During that time, Vigil immediately peaked, returning an interception for a touchdown in Week 2 at the Cardinals. Vigil felt like a potent offseason addition that afternoon, and indeed he was for a while.
Soon after in 2021, Vigil’s performance dropped, unable to keep pace with his Week 1 and 2 dramatics. Overall, Vigil finished the 2021 season with a 42.1 grade From pro football focus13th worst in the NFL among 87 qualifying linebackers. In particular, Vigil struggled with run defense and averaged just 30.8 PFF,
And then in 2022 for the Cardinals, in limited playing time, he tabulated a terrible 28.3. PFF Grade before suffering a hamstring injury, which ruled him out for the rest of the season. Vigil will turn 30 next month and will likely have a few more seasons in the tank, perhaps in New York, if the audition goes well.
Overall, Vigil is expected to join his fifth team in five years, traveling from the Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers, Vikings to the Cardinals. At Minnesota, Vigil produced 85 total tackles, four tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, one sack, one interception (a touchdown at Arizona), and an 89.5 passer-rating-against.

At this stage of the summer and in free agency, Vigil will likely sign with the Giants or someone else for close to the veteran minimum.
New York also signed running back James Robinson on Friday, which could be considered ‘Saquon Barkley insurance’ among Barkley’s franchise-tagged holdouts.
The Giants eliminated the Vikings from the playoffs in January.
