Giants 2023 NFL schedule takeaway: Easiest and toughest games

The full schedule for the 2023 NFL was released on Thursday. Here’s how the Giants’ schedule shapes up:

three hardest games

week 3 at 49ers

Sure, we don’t know if the Niners quarterback will be Trey Lance, Brock Purdy or… Sam Darnold.

We know the Giants will face “Thursday Night Football” in primetime, a brutal defense and an inventive offense, away from home, in a short week of rest.

week 6 in the bill

The good news is that the Lake Erie ice shouldn’t be in effect through mid-October.

The bad news is that the Bills figure to be loaded and Josh Allen is a bear to play against.

It will be a homecoming for GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Dabol, who earned his shot with the Giants thanks to his good work in Buffalo.

Week 16 at Eagles

Any game against the Eagles any week could qualify for any “toughest game” list.

The difficulty factor is increased by being an afternoon game on Christmas Day, which represents a very festive and raucous atmosphere.

This is the home of horrors for the Giants losing 10 games in a row at Lincoln Financial Field.

Week 2 at the Cardinals

Kyler Murray is rehabbing after reconstructive knee surgery and is not expected until later in the season.

So, the Giants will face either their former backup, Colt McCoy, or David Blough or Jeff Driskell at quarterback.

There will be plenty of blue-clad Giants fans among the Cardinals red in the building.

Week 11 Vs. commanders

Yes, we know, division games are never easy but some are definitely easier than others.

The Giants went 1–0–1 against the Commanders in 2022 and 0–5 against the rest of the NFC East in the regular season and playoffs.

Dexter Lawrence, Kevon Thibodaux, Leonard Williams and Aziz Ozulari… will take on Sam Howell?

Week 17 vs. Rams

A New Year’s Eve home game against a regressive Los Angeles team?

This is exactly what the Giants will need at the end of the season.

They hope the temperatures are low, low, low, and a little freezing rain won’t hurt either, with sun-drenched rams hitting the city.

three notable games

Week 1 Vs. cowboy

There was a stretch (2012–19) when the Giants and Cowboys met six of eight years in the season opener.

The Giants lost five of those six games.

It is a “Sunday Night Football” extravaganza at MetLife Stadium.

In 2022 the ‘Boys’ beat the Giants.

Week 8 Vs. jet

The teams that both call MetLife Stadium home clash once every four years in the regular season and when they do it’s always meaningful – if only to claim arena supremacy.

Aaron Rodgers, in case you haven’t heard, now plays quarterback for the Jets.

This is a Giants home game. How many rogers no. Will there be 8 jerseys on the seats?

Week 9 at Raiders

Vegas, baby.

The Giants have been around since 1925 and for most of that time the NFL would have played a game on the moon before moving to gambling-infested Las Vegas.

Time has changed.

The first ever Giants game in Vegas will be the return of tight end Darren Waller, who was with the Raiders for five seasons before the Giants traded him for him.

Where’s bye?

It’s quite late – in Week 13, which means the Giants will have played 12 games before they get a break.

Coaches usually prefer a bye closer to the middle of the season.

This respite is an overdue and welcome rest before the final five-game stretch of the run.

overall

The Giants have four prime-time games — three in the first four weeks, so get ready, national viewers.

The Giants requested and were granted back-to-back road games for their two longest trips and as a result would be able to be in Arizona between Week 2 (at the Cardinals) and Week 3 (at the 49ers), eliminating a cross- Country travel.

Five of the first six games are against teams making the playoffs in 2022, not an attractive way for Dabold to start his second season as head coach.

Based on their 2022 records, the Giants, Cowboys and Patriots have the toughest schedules in the league.

This presented serious challenges for the Giants, as seven of their first 10 games were on the road – the first time a team had to do so since the 1990 bye.

The Giants, on the other hand, have had just one flight (New Orleans) in the last eight weeks.
