Hyun-Jun Yang and Hyeok-Kyu Kwon: Celtic sign South Korean duo on five-year deals | Transfer Centre News
Celtic have announced the signing of South Korean duo Hyun-joon Yang and Hyeok-Kyu Kwon on a five-year deal.
Attacker Yang joins from Gangwon FC for a fee of around £2 million while Kwon joins from Busan I-Park for £1 million.
Forward Mario Tilio has arrived from Melbourne City, Odin Thiago Holm has been secured from Vålerenga, while Celtic have made fellow midfielder Tomoaki Iwata a permanent signing after being loaned from Yokohama F. Marinos.
Yang, who was the K League Young Player of the Year last season, played in all but one of Gangwon’s 22 league games this season.
Defensive midfielder Kwon’s last game for Busan was against Seongnam in K-League 2.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said: “We look forward to both players joining the squad and playing their part in another successful campaign.
“Yang is a player we’ve watched closely and we feel he will further enhance our attacking options, which already include, of course, his fellow countryman Oh.
“He is an exciting player who was young player of the year in South Korea last season, which is a sign of his quality, and I am sure he will be keen to make a big impact at the club.
“It is also clear that he was very keen on moving to Celtic, so I know he will be delighted that everything has now been agreed and we are really looking forward to working with him.
“Again, Kwon is a player the club have known about for some time, so it is great that we have completed the deal and I know the player is happy with the move.”
Yang said: “I am very pleased to be here at Celtic and I look forward to meeting my new team-mates and starting to train with them.
“It’s a move I wanted to make and so it’s great to be here in Scotland now as a Celtic player.
“I’ve spoken to Hyeon-gyu Oh who has already told me great things about the club and its supporters, so I can’t wait to meet them and play in front of them.”
Speaking following his move, Kwon said: “Joining the Scottish champions is a great step for me, and I look forward to working with the manager and players.
“I know Celtic are already very famous in their country, and I’m sure the support will continue to grow, there are three South Korean players now, and it will be nice to play with them.”
