Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, considers himself lucky to be alive.
On Tuesday, Portnoy said it was “a miracle I survived” after an illness forced the hardcore Boston sports fan to miss Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Celtics and the Heat.

Portnoy left his usual courtside seat at the TD Garden vacant after Barstool Sports host Dan Katz called him “the biggest coward I’ve ever seen.”
Barstool host Kevin Clancy said, “Don’t forget that you were seated outside because you had a sniffle problem.”
“I didn’t hear the sniffles,” Portnoy retorted.
Katz then said that Portnoy was “soft” for missing the game.
“I couldn’t get out of bed. I’m lucky I wasn’t dead,” Portnoy said. “I was so sick… I’m lucky I’m here… I could have died.”
Portnoy further said that he couldn’t even stand – and could barely see while battling the disease.
“If I had stood there there was a chance I would have hit my head on a rock, how dizzy I was,” he said. “my hand was [his girlfriend] to sew [Mojica] Trying to get to the door… I just fell down.”
Portnoy shared this on Twitter on Tuesday he felt great,
“The important thing is that I feel better and my health,” he wrote. “Without your health you have nothing.”

Portnoy participated in the Celtics’ 110–97 Game 5 victory in Boston.
The second-seeded Celtics were on the verge of making history as the first team to win a series after falling behind 3–0, but could not get the job done at their home field in Game 7.
The eighth-seeded Heat will face the Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals, with the first game being played on Thursday in Denver.
