Khalil Ramos and Ashley Ortega Address Gen Z Issues in ‘As If It’s True’

Indie drama “As If It’s True” stars Ashley Ortega and Khalil Ramos say working on the film forced them out of their comfort zones as they had to shoot several “intimate scenes” on their first day on the job.
John Rogers’ film is an entry for the 2024 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, which runs from August 4 to 18.
“When I first read the script, I was nervous because it had intimate scenes which I was going to do for the first time in my showbiz career. But since I want to grow as an actress, I said yes. “The role really pushed me to my limits,” Hee told Inquirer Entertainment at a luncheon hosted by Cinemalaya.
“I was lucky enough to have Khaleel here as my partner. I never felt uncomfortable with him, especially when we had to do our intimate scenes. He is a professional. Off camera, we got a chance to work on our relationship by having a long chat. I think that’s why we looked comfortable with each other when we were already in front of the camera,” she remarked.
Khalil said that it helped that they attended acting workshops together prior to filming. “It is very important that trust is established between the actors. I remember our workshop moderator told us to sit face to face and then tell each other how much we trust each other,” he recalled. “She was also very cooperative. Soberang Game Siya! I was so happy that she seemed so at ease with me. It was important that we didn’t look uncomfortable.”

love and abuse
Ashley plays Gemma Watson, a social media influencer or content creator who becomes exhausted trying to keep the interest of her followers. She meets James (Khalil), a struggling musician suffering from depression. They enter into a relationship with the mutual intention of benefiting each other. Gemma uses James by presenting him as an ideal ambitious romantic partner, while James exploits Gemma’s wealth and connections to advance his music career. But as time passes, their intentions don’t pan out the way they expected and a blurring of true love and exploitation emerges.
Khalil explains why saying ‘yes’ to the project was not that difficult. “Since the pandemic, I feel like making films again. Second, the story is really compelling. It explores many issues facing the new generation. We know that the platforms on which artists express themselves are changing. Social media has emerged,’ he began. “The film addresses the problem of Generation Z, how to stay authentic, and the decision of whether or not to show what is really happening in your life. [the] public.”
When Khalil was asked if the scenes he did in the film would make his real-life girlfriend Gabi Garcia jealous, he said, “Gabi and I are very fortunate that our relationship has a strong foundation. We both understand the nature of our work and we are very professional in it. Gabby is happy with all my projects. I am also with him. Intimate scenes are not the main attraction of this film. This is the story of two people who discover what love really is in their generation.
He also said that he would like to do another project with Gabby, but has no plans for one in the near future. “At the moment my focus is on ‘tick, tick… boom!’ But there is.” We rehearse every day. I am very excited about it. I am well aware of people’s expectations. I always think about it before I sleep at night,” he said.

career plans
Khalil will alternate the lead role of John with protagonist Jeff Flores. The musical will run in August. “I’m very nervous, especially because all the songs are so high pitched and hard to sing. I am lucky because the entire cast and crew have always encouraged and motivated me,” he added.
As far as Ashley is concerned, who boldly stated that she is currently single, she said that she will focus on her career for the time being. “I don’t like to think about why the right guy is still absent from my life. I’m glad I was shooting for both ‘Hearts on Ice’ and ‘As If It’s True’”, she said. I’m on vacation this month. I did seven months of recording for ‘Hearts on Ice’ and now I want to travel. Although I’m not completely ruling out dating, I’m still looking for someone new. I am not doing
Ashley also said that she would not turn down offers to play “sexy roles” in the future, especially if the storyline was “something that would make me grow as an actress.” She further added, “I have played pa-pyare characters. For example, when I first read about the intimate scenes in this film, I was shocked, but after reading the entire script, I said I would do it because I knew it would really challenge me.
“As If It’s True” is a co-production of IdeaFirst Company. The 19th edition of Cinemalaya will be screened at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
