Purple Rumor Mill: Ex-Vikings Coach In 2024 With Kirk, Deon, Dalvin + MIA
Remember – there are rumors Rumors, What you read in these pieces over the weekend is what the world is talking about Vikings, not necessarily those things that will come to fruition.
Here is the first batch of the week.
a rumor: Kirk Cousins is unlikely to sign with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent next March.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has a long-standing relationship with Kirk Cousins dating back to both men’s tenures with the Washington Commanders. And Cousins is scheduled to become a free agent next March. San Francisco will probably do due diligence on Cousins’ free agency, right?
One 49ers pundit disagrees.
of athletic matt barrow poured cold water Last week on Cousins-to-49ers. ,[The 49ers] They probably need to rethink the way they structure their salary range. The other reason it seems unlikely – at least, for now – is Brock Purdy. Yes, Shanahan loves cousins. He has championed Cousins, now 34, since he was Washington’s offensive coordinator in 2012, the year Washington selected the quarterback in the fourth round. But he suspects they now have a smaller, cheaper and more mobile version of Cousins in Purdy, who is 11 years younger,” explained Barrow.
vikings Cousins may also expand in February or March.
Barrows continued, “Of course, Purdy is largely unproven. And he’s suffered major injuries (oblique/elbow) in two of his eight career starts. Cousins, on the other hand, has been remarkably healthy in each of the past eight seasons, starting all or most of the games except one.
The theory, in short, is that the 49ers will simply keep and develop Purdy rather than explore Cousins’ free agency.
a rumor: Former Vikings OC Pat Shurmur is assisting Deion Sanders in Colorado.
According to 24/7 Sports and Carl Reed Jr., Shurmur will join the Colorado Buffaloes staff as an offensive analyst for the 2023 season.
Shurmur was the Vikings’ offensive coordinator for some of 2016 and 2017—the latter half of the Vikings’ near-storybook season that culminated in an NFC Championship appearance. He then took over as head coach of the New York Giants in 2018, an experiment that didn’t last long.
Now, Shurmur will apparently try on the NCAA for size, his first college stint in 25 years.
a rumor: Dalvin Cook is unhappy with the latest offering from the Miami Dolphins.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington said espn show nfl live This week, “We don’t necessarily have anything yet on Cook’s decision because ultimately he still wants to go a little closer to training camp to really get it right. One thing I would point out is that the Miami Dolphins remain interested. He still has an offer, which Cook is unwilling to accept. I could definitely see him trying to take advantage of others. He’s still interested in joining the Dolphins, but at this point, again, isn’t ready to commit to the deal that’s on the table between them.
Cook still believes he can fetch around $10 million on the open market. Right now, that strategy isn’t working. He will be engaged in training camps to find out if it is possible.
