Martin Maldonado’s homer on eighth gave Houston Astros a 3-2 victory over Seattle Mariners

Martin Maldonado hit a tiebreaking solo home run in the eighth inning to give the Houston Astros a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday evening.

The game was 2-all with one out in the eighth when Maldonado sent a slider to Andres Muñoz (2-2) 111 feet to left center to put the Astros on top.

The Mariners missed a chance to take the lead in the top of the inning as Hector Neris (5-2) struggled for control. He hit Ty France with a pitch to start the inning, and France advanced to second on a wild pitch. Neris then walked Teoscar Hernandez and Eugenio Suarez to load the bases.

But he escaped a basesloaded jam by striking out pinch-hitter Cal Raleigh on three pitches, striking out pinch-hitter Mike Ford on a pop-out, and fanning José Caballero to end the inning. close.

Hernandez led off the fourth with a double into left field before Suarez walked. Hernandez stole third base with two outs in the inning and scored on Caballero’s grounder to center field to make it 2.
