Mid-Summer Report Card: Grading Big 12 recruiting
The 2024 recruitment cycle has reached the midpoint, which means that many recruitment classes across the country are filling up fast. Here’s how each team has fared in the Big 12 so far.

Dave Aranda And boiler Commitments have been added from 12 prospects to this point, with most of the class coming from the Lone Star State. Four-star linebacker Brock Jackson is the highest-ranked commitment. Wide receiver Jadon Porter and safety Christopher Vokoma are talented recruiters who could see a jump in the rankings even before all is said and done. There isn’t a ton of high-level talent in this class, but the Bears are building a respectable and solid class.

Aside from the commitment of four-star tight end Ryner Swanson, the Cougars have failed to make much waves on the trail. BYU That missed out on four-star quarterback Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of former Cougars star Zach Wilson, which provided a tougher pill to swallow. Of the other seven pledges in the class, only two are rated at least three stars.
head coach Kalani Sitake Is a program builder but desperately needs recruiting going forward in the Big 12. Swanson is a big bright spot for the class, and the Cougars deserve support to overcome Texas and Oregon for West Coast tight ends.

Houston
Houston has an opportunity to be a force on the recruiting trail as the Cougars move to the Big 12. Already boasting one of the most talented footprints in the country, Houston now has the ability to stay home and sell recruits when they play in the Power Five. … Flip of Rivals250 safety Maurice Williams lsu It shows what the Cougars can do in the future.
But the Cougars only have seven commitments — including only one four-star. Speedster Heath McCree and defensive end Zion Taylor were big wins for the staff, showing the Cougars could potentially be on a roll before the end of the cycle.

Iowa State
Matt Campbell Has more than earned the benefit of the doubt during his tenure with the Cyclones. But Iowa State It lacks major firepower in its 2024 orbit as of early July. There are 15 commitments in the class, but only one is rated 5.7 or higher: three-star Oklahoma tight end Cooper Alexander.

Things Have Changed For The Jayhawks On The Recruiting Path Since Then lance leipold Took office in Lawrence. all of a sudden, Kansas boasts an impressive talent pool, and Leopold’s employees have done a fantastic job with top priorities.
Four-star Texans Decius Brinkley and Damani Maxson top the class. Harry Stewart is a talented player from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and the Jayhawks went into Big Ten territory to land Jalen Todd. Kansas deserves attention in the recruiting landscape.

Kansas State has proven to play above its recruiting ranking, evidenced by winning the Big 12 last season. But the Wildcats’ class hasn’t been much to write about as of now. K-State only has seven pledges right now, with state three-star lineman Kedin Massey as the headliner. Chris Kliman He knows how to program, but he’s got his work cut out between now and signing day.

The Sooners always top the recruiting rankings. Brent Venables And the staff is on track again, with elite tight end prospect Devon Mitchell becoming the latest to announce. oklahoma – and in the process it was reclassified into the 2024 class. sonny dykes And the Horned Frogs made massive headlines during their first season playing for the national title. Staff has carried some of that momentum down the road to recruitment. Four-star quarterback Hoss is the athletic player behind the Hejny center with a state title to his name.
Around him, the Horned Frogs have commitments including four-star wideout Gekyle Baker, four-star all-purpose back Jeremy Payne and four-star offensive lineman Tobias Stapes, among others. There’s a lot to like about the class being built in Fort Worth.

The Longhorns have always been among the nation’s elite in the recruiting process, and that will be the case in the 2024 cycle. Steve Sarkeesian And their employees were hit by the heat in late June and early July.
Jordan Johnson-Rubell, Parker Livingstone, Jerrick Gibson and Erin Hampton were among them, with both Johnson-Rubell and Hampton committing live on Rivalry.
Texas is looking to five-stars Colin Simmons and Ryan Wingo and elite four-star Corian Gipson, among other top targets.

As it currently stands, the Red Raiders have commitments to several potential risers such as four-star QB Will Hammond, four-star OL Holton Hendricks and OT Ellis Davis, and pass rusher Cheta Ofili.

UCF The recruiting trail has already taken full advantage of its transition to the Power Five level. Gus Malzahn has made the Golden Knights a threat to blue chip talent in the Southeast. Rivals250 running back Stacy Gage is the obvious headliner, but UCF also has pledges from four other four-stars. Recently, Malzahn and the staff got thrashed Florida State For tight end Kylan Fox.
I have full focus on the Golden Knights. With a fertile recruiting footprint and a former SEC head coach at the helm, there’s no doubt that UCF will be a force to be reckoned with as the program begins a new era in the Big 12.

West Virginia
Neil Brown And the Mountaineers have made 18 commitments and are among the top-35 nationally in the rankings. But freight is based more on quantity than quality. Four-star wideout Brandon Rahman is the only blue chip talent in this class at this stage. High three-star Obinna Onwuka and defensive back Israel Boyce are promising prospects.
