It’s an interleague match-up as the Atlanta Braves head north of the border to visit the Toronto Blue Jays. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series with a Braves-Blue Jays prediction, pick and how to watch.

The Braves continued their streak of games against the AL East with this one. He took two of three from the Orioles and then split two games against the Red Sox. They now sit at 25-12 and lead the AL East. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have been perfect as of late. They were swept by the Phillies in just two games, but swept the Pirates just before that. Prior to this, it was being cleared by the Red Sox. The Blue Jays are currently 21–16 but in fourth place. They need to find some consistency quickly.

Why the Braves Can Cover the Spread

The Braves currently rank seventh in the majors in batting average at .262. He has the fifth most runs in the majors while hitting the third most home runs in the league. Ronald Acuna Jr. is having a solid season, hitting .347 which ranks second in the majors. He has two hits in each of the last two games and is hitting .333 in May. He is pitching right-handed this year. Acuña is hitting .350 against righties in his junior season with five home runs and 16 runs batted in. Also right-arm fast bowler Matt Olsson has been there. He’s hitting .276, but he has nine home runs and 21 RBI against righties on the year.

Unfortunately for the Braves, most of their players have been hitting against lefties. Ozzie Albies has some power with five home runs, but is hitting just .194 against righties. Austin Riley has two home runs and is hitting just .229. Considering the Braves have had a few games in which they have struggled to score, this could be an issue for them today.

They don’t need to score a ton to win though. Spencer Strider takes the mound today. He is currently 4-90 with a 2.70 ERA and the Braves have won all seven times this year. In April, he had three starts in six or more innings, allowing zero runs. May hasn’t been as kind, as he has a 5.40 ERA for the month in two starts.

Why the Blue Jays Can Cover the Spread

The Blue Jays need to go back and score some runs. In the series against the Pirates, he scored 22 runs in three matches. He allowed just five runs in two games against the Phillies. In the last game, a throwing error by Bo Bechette led the Phillies to come back from a 1–0 deficit to win in ten innings. Fielding has been an issue for them this year. He ranks 22nd in fielding percentage this year by a whopping 22 and has committed 22 errors.

While Bichet’s errors cost his team a game, he has a solid month. In the month of May, he is hitting .368 with an OBP of .415. In that time he hit two home runs and drove in six. He’s limiting his strikeouts and making good contact overall. If he can maintain this, he can lead this team in an offensive position. Also this month has been hot for Wladimir Guerrero Jr. He is hitting .321 this month but has only two home runs. If he can get a little bit of power with how much contact he’s making, it could be a big deal for the Blue Jays.

Towing the rubber will be Chris Bassitt. His last start ended with just four hits and four walks in seven innings with no runs scored. He has had a rough start to the year, but the worst of the year seems to be behind him. It was a 3.1-inning performance where he gave up nine runs, including four home runs. Although it was his first start of the year, he has given up only two home runs since then.

Final Braves-Blue Jays Predictions & Picks

The Braves are one of the best teams in baseball, but the Blue Jays are solid too. The Braves have had a few injuries in their rotation, making it likely that they will pull Strider as far as they can to save the bullpen. Basit has been in great form since his first tour of the year. It should be a great pitching match, but the Blue Jays get a homerun from Guerrero Jr. and get cover.

Final Braves-Blue Jays Prediction & Picks: Blue Jays +1.5 (-130)
