With the 2023 Major League Baseball season six weeks old, it’s a good time to review which players have made the biggest impact ever.
While there were many worth considering, I decided to narrow down the list to the five most valuable players in the majors.
Some surprises from baseball’s hottest teams are included, as well as two well-known superstars who could be the respective front-runners for the NL and AL MVP awards.
*All stats from Thursday’s matches
5. atlanta braves catcher sean murphy
Statistics: nine home runs, 32 RBI, 1,040 OPS
It was the best off-season pick-up of all. He has been great for the Braves in that position. He got offensive numbers from there, but Shaun Murphy is one of the best all-around young catchers in the game of baseball.
He is great defensively. He’s great at calling a play, leading a staff, throwing out runners. He’s been brilliant offensively – he had his first homer with that team that walk-off home run, He has been an invaluable asset to the Braves and I think he is an MVP candidate in the National League right now.
4. miami marlins second baseman Luis Arez
Statistics: .398 Batting Average, .457 OBP, .944 OPS
I do believe that we continue to underestimate what Luis Arraz brings to a ballpark. If anyone in baseball is ever going to hit .400 again, it’s Luis Arraz. I had this conversation with John Smoltz on Saturday, and you’re going to hear it, but we’re going to talk about Luis Arraz and players who can potentially hit .400, and specifically Tony Gwynn and Smoltz confront him. You want to hear it on Saturday.
Shohei Ohtani and Ronald Acuna Jr. Title top 5 players in BVP
But Luis Arraz is an absolute threat at the plate. I think if a player is going to hit .400 in a season, and I’m not saying he will, but if a player is going to hit around .400, I don’t care if it’s Is it singles or doubles. That person should be in the MVP conversation. In general, he has not been. He won the batting title last year, but he wasn’t even mentioned in the MVP conversation. So she’s in my “BVP” conversation this year.
3. tampa bay rays short stop go on franco
Statistics: 7 home runs, .310 batting average, .920 OPS, 11 stolen bases
It is a breakout year for Wander and I am very happy. He hits for a high average, lots of power, steals bases, drives in runs, all while doing it on the best baseball team.
The Rays are still the best baseball team and Wander is having a breakout season. He emerged as the best prospect, and man is it. Man, that was great to watch.
2. atlanta braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr.
Statistics: 7 home runs, .347 batting average, 1,014 OPS, 15 stolen bases
Ronald isn’t going anywhere. He’s on this list to stay. He hit a 470-foot home run on Wednesday, a full tank to left field. Just look what he has done so far. you want to talk about the 40-40 season [40 home runs and 40 stolen bases]What I’ve been saying since Ronald came into the league, I think he could be the next player to do it. This is a very short list, he may be the fifth in history to do so. Ronald Acuna is on target for the 20-30 first half season. are u joking?
1. angels from los angeles pitcher / designated batter Shohei Ohtani
Stroke Stats: 8 home runs, 24 RBI, .293 batting average, .888 OPS
Pitching Stats: 2.74 ERA, 0.913 WHIP, 12.9 strikeouts per nine innings, .143 batting average against
How do you become more valuable? 300 per year with eight home runs and he is 4-1 on the mound with a 2.74 ERA, striking out all. Lowest batting average against him, lowest WHIP, I could go on. This man is the most valuable player in the game of baseball and probably the most talented player the game has ever seen. So yes, Shohei Ohtani once again tops the list as the best ‘BVP’. At this point, how does he not?
