Orioles-Rays Predictions, Prospects, Selections, How To Watch

The Baltimore Orioles will look to mount a comeback on Saturday when they face the Tampa Bay Rays. We’re at Tropicana Field, sharing our MLB odds series, Orioles-Rays predictions and showing you how to watch.

The Rays shut out the Orioles 3–0 on Friday to create a tie at the top of the AL West. Now, both the teams will go head to head in today’s encounter to determine the sole owner of the first spot.

The Rays started off in the second inning when Harold Ramirez singled to deep center field to take a 1–0 lead. Later, Isaac Paredes hit a shot to left field for a solo home run. It was his 18th blast of the year, giving the Rays a 2–0 lead. Then, Josie Sirie hit a shot to deep left field to make it 3–0.

The Orioles could not get anything on the board as Zach Eflin held them down. Significantly, he pitched seven shutout innings, while allowing two hits and striking out eight. Eflin’s score moved to 11–5 with the win. Additionally, Pete Fairbanks earned his 11th save. Kyle Bradish pitched six innings for the Orioles, while giving up two earned runs on six hits. Ultimately he trailed 6-5.

Grayson Rodriguez gets the start for the O’s and comes in with a 2-2 record with a 7.33 ERA. Most recently, he gave up four earned runs on seven hits in five innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers, while striking out four and allowing two runs in a no-decision. Rodriguez pitched 5 2/3 innings on May 18 against the Rays, giving up two earned runs on seven hits without a decision.

Shane McClanahan comes in to start for the Rays with an 11-1 record and 2.56 ERA. In addition, he gave up two earned runs on three hits in six innings while going six without a decision in his last outing against the Texas Rangers.

The Orioles are now 59–38. Meanwhile, the Rays are 61-40. The Orioles lead 4–3 in the season series.

Why could the Orioles cover the spread?

The Orioles managed only two hits against Efflin. Furthermore, he could not hit anything against the bullpen. The Orioles left four runners on the basepaths. Beyond that, they couldn’t build momentum. The O’s got on second base once, and it happened in the second inning on a double with one out. Unfortunately, neither Austin Hays nor Cotton Couser could get the runner home, leaving him stranded.

Gunnar Henderson struggled at the plate, going 0 for 4. Similarly, Adley Ratshman could not make contact, going 0 for 2 twice. Anthony Santander scored 0 for 4. Also, Ryan O’Hearn went 1 for 4. Ryan Mountcastle scored 1 for 3. In addition, Hayes went 0 for 3. While the offense was poor, the pitching kept them competitive. Furthermore, the Orioles handled this dangerous lineup very well.

If the bats can find a way to reach McClanahan early, the Orioles will cover the spread. Then again, they need another strong pitching performance.

Why can rays cover dilation?

Rays needed three runs. However, their offensive struggles highlight a worrying trend regarding a team that started hot and has faltered over the past few months. Yandy Diaz went 1 of 3 in yesterday’s contest. Meanwhile, Vander Franco went 0 for 4. Luke Raleigh scored 0 for 3. Similarly, Randy Arrozarena went 0 for 4. Teams that look to the top of their lineup struggle are often not successful. Therefore, the rays require production from these people.

But Paredes did his job. Eventually, his home run gave the Rays some breathing room, no matter how small, to get the win. The pitching and defense caused the Rays to cover. Ultimately, he shut down the top-5 lineup and gave the Orioles no chances. The defense also played effectively and made no mistakes. Now, they will have to repeat the same performance today.

If the top of the lineup can produce then the Rays will cover the spread. Again, McClanahan needs good pitching and defense in order for him to continue to play efficiently.

Ultimate Orioles-Rays Predictions and Selections

The Orioles have one of the best offenses in the league. However, McClanahan is still an ace, look for O to make a little better contact in this one. Despite this, Ray manages to fend them off in the end.
