Why the Padres Can Cover the Spread

The Padres continue to struggle offensively. Now, they hope to keep it together. Juan Soto is batting .268 in 2023 with 10 home runs, 26 RBI and 32 runs batted in. However, he has gone 0 for 3 yesterday. Fernando Tatis Jr. is hitting .247 with nine home runs, 19 RBI and 21 runs batted in. Unfortunately, he went 0 for 4 yesterday. Xander Bogarts is batting .256 with seven home runs, 20 RBI and 30 runs batted in. Similarly, he went 1 for 3 yesterday. Matt Carpenter is one of the hottest new weapons in San Diego, batting .184 with four home runs, 24 RBI and 12 runs batted in. Therefore, he did not play yesterday. The Padres are 29th in batting average, 20th in on-base percentage, 24th in runs, 14th in home runs and 25th in slugging percentage.

If they can score a few quick runs, the Padres will cover the spread. Again, they need good work from their bullpen, especially if they have a tight leadoff if they use someone else to top it off.

Why the Marlins Can Cover the Spread

The Marlins are also a team that struggles to score. Thus, he needs to pitch well while finding runs at the right places. Yuli Gurial is batting. 289 with three home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs batted in. Similarly, he went 1 for 3 yesterday. Garrett Cooper is hitting .235 with five home runs, 20 RBI and 11 runs batted in. However, he did not play yesterday. Luis Arraz is batting .376 with one home run, 20 RBI and 19 runs batted in. Also, he took 2 for 3 yesterday. Brian De La Cruz is hitting .301 with seven home runs, 23 RBI and 25 runs batted in. Regardless, he went 0 for 3 yesterday. Jorge Soler is batting .250 with 17 home runs, 35 RBI and 31 runs batted in. In addition, he went 0 for 2 with two strikeouts and two walks. The Marlins left seven runners on base. Now, he has moved up to eighth place in batting average in today’s game. The Marlins are 18th in on-base percentage, 27th in runs, 27th in home runs and 19th in slugging percentage.

The Marlins will cover the spread if they can score more runs early. Then, Luzardo must pitch well, follow through with a bullpen with good hitting and the ability to locate the strike zone.
