Ryan Gosling was applauded in Barbie’s first reaction; call for oscar nominations
The premiere of Barbie was held last night and the first reactions to Greta Gerwig’s latest film are in. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are getting a lot of praise – especially in the latter’s case.
Barbie follows the eponymous doll (Robbie) on a journey to find true happiness with Ken (Gosling). Dua Lipa, Issa Rae, Emma Mackey, and Kate McKinnon also star in various variations of the doll, while Simu Liu, John Cena, and Kingsley Ben-Adir star in various variations of Kane.
Filmmaker Ben Meckler was very pleased with the Barbie, calling it a “knockout”. He continued by saying that “Gosling steals the show” and that he “loved” the film.
no wonder – #barbie is a knockout. As a comedy, it’s a complete crowd pleaser – as devastating as it is an indictment of capitalist feminism and an urgent call to move on and eat them when we’re stuck with our pets after a major earthquake. Gosling steals the show – I loved it

Another critic called Barbie Gosling’s “best role ever”, adding that Gerwig took the best parts of her past and “combined them into one super-Gosling.” He added that “the Oscar talk is real” and that if it happens, it would be “one of the funniest and most inspired nominations in recent memory.”
#barbie This is Ryan Gosling’s best role yet – Greta Gerwig has taken everything that made him great in his previous films and combined them into one super-Gosling. The Oscar buzz is real, and if it happens it will be one of the funniest and most inspired nominations in recent memory. pic.twitter.com/yxhYULZTYz

Perry Nemiroff of Collider commended Barbie’s craftsmanship—especially the costume and production design work which he called “next-level work”—but found the story a bit mixed. He added, “I think the film captures Margot Robbie’s Barbie and her journey particularly well, but the other characters are also experiencing turning points that take more time to really dig into and fully explore.” Screen time is needed.”
I have seen #barbie, The craftsmanship is incredible. The costumes and production design in particular involve next-level work that contributes heavily to creating the feeling that this really is Barbie, her dream home, and her world come to life.

Lastly, Jamie Zirak called Barbie his “favorite film of the year” and said that it somehow exceeded his expectations. “Give Ryan Gosling an Oscar nomination, I’m serious!” Jirac concluded.
Barbie will be released on July 21.
