We never thought that a collaboration between “Euphoria” and “The Crown” would result in a pro tennis tournament, but here we are. On February 11, MGM announced that Zendaya and Josh O’Connor would star together in Luca Guadagnino’s new romantic drama “Challengers”. Written by playwright Justin Kuritzkes, the film is produced by Zendaya, Guadagnino and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” creator Amy Pascal.
In the film’s first trailer, which MGM released on June 20, Zendaya appears as rising tennis star Tashi Duncan. She meets two other young athletes on the track, played by O’Connor and Faust, and they soon become embroiled in a threesome. When Tashi is injured, Faust’s character runs to her. She changes her tennis career to become his coach and wife. All goes well until Patrick Van O’Connor re-enters their lives years later. The entire energetic clip is soundtracked by Rihanna’s “S&M”.
